A wider maxillary arch allows the tongue to rest comfortably against the palate instead of occupying excessive space within the oral cavity. Improved tongue position may help maintain airway patency during both wakefulness and sleep. Additionally, correcting maxillary constriction before orthodontic treatment establishes a more stable skeletal foundation for tooth alignment while supporting healthy oral and respiratory function.
